The American Institute for Steel Construction is the largest forum for Steel Fabricators in the United States. Each year, it holds an annual conference to attract and convene Architects, Steel Detailers, Steel Fabricators, Engineers, to dicuss the latest trends in this trade that literally builds America.

This year’s conference was held in Phoenix, Arizona in April and drew over 3,000 attendees. Along with 18 different engineering sessions, the show featured an exhibit hall that drew over 200 companies.

For the first time in Totten’s history, a team descended into the Valley of the Sun and manned a booth. Samples, literature, and videos were available. Laser cut pieces compliments of Searing Industries were on display along with an impressive square tube sculpture compliments of the welding skills of
Dave Howell.

The booth drew over hundreds of visitors over the three days and sparked a lot of interest in the extensive size range the company offers. One of the visitors stopped for a photo opportunity because of the company unique name. The visitor from Civas Steel in upstate New York was none other then
Ted Totten, President. Tracy and Ted traded e-mail addresses and promised to compare geneologies to see if they were possibly related. Totten offered Civas Steel a ‘relative discount’ if the geneologies showed a match. Since Marv Totten’s ancestors came through Ellis Island (New York City) from England, there is a chance Ted and Tracy could be very distant cousins.

Totten’s show team came away tired but satisfied that its brand name is now reaching a larger national audience and perhaps some sizeable orders will soon come.
